Reconsider Selling your Work on Amazon!

13 Jan

Amazon, in all it’s masterful ways, contributed to the death of stores and physical stores disappearing in the United States. How could business owners pay more to there workers when Amazon Prime offers two day package service. Why should anyone do anything else? The problem didn’t just happen in 2021. The error of complacency and the world that doesn’t value small business owners and the publications or vendors who live off selling there work in physical stores.

If I had a book store, and my business required customers to come in and browse, it’s not about a health risk, because in 2021, it’s about sanity, not just about health. Both are an equal measure to worry about. The typical act of walking around a bookstore was stolen from many in Virginia, as it doesn’t create unity, but disparity at those who don’t have a job to buy a book anymore. Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Books-a-Million can survive. But if normalcy doesn’t return and jobs, there will be no bookstores left.

The problem is not complicated. Small town businesses need to survive and they can’t be restricted. if you think 2020 was bad, following the same guidelines will destroy America. If Amazon is the only distributor left, it will create an unfair monopoly. It will destroy small bookstores and a place of refuge for readers around the world.

But trading freedom is easy when you don’t want the freedom to do what America allows us to do. Make money your own way. Amazon allows authors to sell there work, but taking away half of the profits, both for digital and physical books. Destroying indie writers chances of actually making a living by creating the content they want. Amazon censors wrong think and will block it out. This is not freedom of speech. What is distressful is Amazon is the only major global distributors that didn’t even close during the pandemic of 2020.

Not that this is an issue. The drivers who deliver the packages don’t make OT. If that doesn’t make you want to work at Amazon, it was happening in 2013 too. Rising up in Amazon is worse when you spend years trying to ascend the corporate ladder, but are rejected constantly. So, what does that mean? Lulu, where I publish, is actually based on how many books you sell, which is the same as anywhere, but Amazon rarely ever pays anyone unless it’s under a 100 dollars. What’s worse is that my Twitter, run by Adolf Twitter himself, Jack Dorsey, never helped gain any new substantial earnings.

So, it’s tough to be a writer anyway, but when the odds are stacked against you, why publish with Amazon anyway? If you take away a physical bookstore, it can only destroy the authors who need to sell there books and finding a sane place to sit and read and get away from the insanity of the real world.

But if Amazon is allowed to take control of the global market, and small bookstores are taken away, and the only distributor left is Amazon, for books, and the like, the insanity will continue. Both the artist, independent book seller, and the reader, will collapse if the world doesn’t return back to normal. If Libraries close too, then where can people go? Insane, but even the insane asylums have no beds anymore. If there are no books, there are no beds left. It’s not only sad, it’s embarrassing.

A solution: connect with your local bookstores and sell there. Make sure your books are available for distributors to look you and order your work.
